Verizon VoiceWing Battle - San Francisco Qualifier

Location: San Francisco, CA
Date: 10-15-2005
Winner: Rich LeFevre

Verizon hosted the "Verizon VoiceWing Battle" chicken wing eating circuit on Oct. 15 at Knuckles Historic Sports Bar and Grill at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

Rich LeFevre finally subdued Cookie Jarvis in hard-fought double overtime to win the qualifier.

Jarvis, who has been on a tear in 2005, was tied with LeFevre at the end of regulation with 4.92 lbs of chicken wing meat off the bone. The two tied again after the first one-minute overtime, creating an amazing double overtime.

The battle was one of three qualifiers leading up to the final championship and offering a total $14,000 in prize money throughout the circuit. The top five finishers in each qualifier will be offered a seat at the championship event which takes place November 12 in Boston.

There was $2,500 in prize money for the top three finisher ($1,500, $750, $250), and $6,500 up for grabs at the championship ($3,500, $1,500, $1,000, $500).
