Acme Oyster Eating World Championship

The Acme Oyster Eating World Championship returns to New Orleans on Sunday, June 1, for another installment of this highly demanding, highly technical competition—and one of the signature events on the MLE calendar.

In 2014, the world oyster-eating record will again be on the line. Those who have been paying attention will already know that, as of now, that record stands at a staggering 47 dozen oysters in just 8 minutes. It was set in 2012 by the greatest oyster eater in the history of mankind, Ms Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas of Alexandria, VA. Upon witnessing her feat, fellow MLE competitor Aaron "The A-Train" Osthoff told the press, "If I was not there to see if for myself, I would not believe that it happened. But I was there. I did see it. And I do believe." What Sonya Thomas can't do with a fork and a plate of oysters simply can not be done.

The Acme Oyster Eating World Championship will anchor the 2-day New Orleans Oyster Festival for the fifth consecutive year. A lively field always greets NOLA for this event, given the esteem in which the ACME title is held by members of the Major League Eating family.

Competitors will be required to eat the oysters with a fork*, as mandated by MLE.

This contest** will take place at 11.45AM Central, on Sunday June 1, 2014 at the New Orleans Oyster Festival in Woldenburg Park, New Orleans, LA!
