A new Bhut Champion has been crowned!! Chicago's Pat 'Deep Dish' Bertoletti continued his epic season on the MLE circuit by eating 52 Bhut XXX Hot Wings in 5 minutes to win the Jake Melnick's 3rd Annual Jake Melnick's Battle of the Bhut XXX Hot Wing Eating Championship. Bertoletti edged fellow Chicagoan Gravy Brown by a single wing to capture his staggering 17th MLE contest in 2011. The feat set a new world record, smashing the previous mark set last year by Erik 'the Red' Denmark. Denmark finished in third place this year with 44 wings.
Prior to the Championship Event, a media/celebrity contest was held that featured Chicago firefighters, Jake's Bhut Camp winners and Chicago media personalities. The undercard event will benefit, through a donation from Jake Melnick's, the Widows and Orphans fund, which benefits the families of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Jake's signature wings are made with two of the hottest peppers on the planet -- the Red Savina Habanero and the Bhut Jolokia. The Bhut Jolokia rates around 1.5 million on the Scoville scale which makes it almost twice as hot as the Red Savina pepper and over 100 times hotter than a jalapeno.
