Bertoletti King of Cake for 2nd Straight Year
Pat "Deep Dish" Bertoletti celebrated Fat Tuesday at Showboat AC the only way he knows how - by Winning. For the second straight year, Bertoletti, a known sweets specialist, hopped a plane from Chicago and topped his fellow Major League Eating rivals at the SHowboat AC table. Consuming 9.25 king cakes in the 8-minute King Cake Eating World Championship, Bertoletti edged out #3-ranked Bob "Notorious B.O.B." Shoudt by just a few bites to win the $2,500 first-place prize.
In third place eating 8.75 king cakes was perennial crowd favorite Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas. Time ended Sonya's chances of capturing the title as her late surge came up a half king cake short.
The event, which included 11 of world's top MLE eaters and one lucky participant selected from the Showboat AC crowd, was held to officially ring in the Fat Tuesday celebration at the Mardi Gras-themed casino.
